December 25, 2005Where should i mount my CB in my taco when it comes? I am thinking under the seat, but im not sure yet, there is nowhere under the dash that i like.
December 26, 2005good question julian,i went to the truck stop and got some of that velcro sticky tape,2 bucks, cut a 2x4 about 8 inches long, free, then screwed the bracket to it,in a position that i could read the display(which is important to me,because i have the cobra 18wxst,with weather and 40 ch. scanning)i velcroed the wood to the mat on the hump, works real good for me,and i have a 12 volt plug on it so i can put the radio in a another vehicle lickity split if i need to,i didnt like the idea of drilling holes in my dash and the radio takes a beating in that position, under the seat would be worse,in closing, this will be a personal decision for you, good luck, and happy transmitting
December 26, 2005julian,check out 93tacomadriver's cb and antenna install, very good example for you,he chose the right match of radio and antenna, installed in a good place, look at his gallery
December 26, 2005Can you really get into trouble by installing an illegal signal amplifer (about 10X)? I happen to have access to one (shhh).
December 26, 2005the only way to get caught is to step on some feds or military, they have been known to triangulate a position, but that usually only works if you are on a base or stay stationary for any length of time while transmitting, the fcc can fine you up to 50,000 bucks
December 26, 2005I'll make sure to stay mobile
December 26, 2005Yeah bumper, iv seen 93s set up and i like it, but he has a pickup, my center dash area is different in my tacoma, little less CB friendly! When the CB unit comes im going to play around with it. Ill see if 93s set up will work in my truck, I hope so, but doubt it will!
December 26, 2005Whats this about a signal amplifiyer??? i want one!! who makes them? How does it work with the CB? and how would i get my paws on one???
December 26, 2005It was home-made by a retired electrical engineer/ CB technition. There's a good chance you could find one online though.
December 27, 2005http://www.angelfire.com/fl2/cbradiorepair/linkstoallmypages.html this is the best place for amps, base or mobile, and this guy wont burn you
December 27, 2005Good info and products there. Good site Bumper. It sounds like I've got some studying to do now as that site made it look like I know jack.
December 29, 2005Julian, look at my set up. I think my dash is the same, I just took that thing under the cigarette lighter and ash tray and put my CB there. As for a CB amplifier I have one that I am selling if you want to buy it. It just plugs right in. They are illegal, Im not sure how you would get caught, but if the FCC catches you...you will get in trouble.
